Looking back, until these last couple of weeks, I had not written a poem since December 2022. I had been busy writing, but writing books. Books are long and hard, they take time, research, resources and an awful lot of patience. To create a document of around 90,000 words is challenging. It takes a lot of writing, re-writing, scrapping, editing, re-editing, endless temper tantrums, and strong alcohol coffee.
I currently have 2½ books on the go. A science fiction book, I Am Ai. A pseudo theological book, Paul’s Fourth Missionary Journey, and a start on a third, Lazarus Lives. This is a completely fictitious account of the friend of Jesus, and brother of Mary and Martha. The premise is, 2,000 years later, Lazarus is still alive. Once Jesus raises someone from the dead, there ain’t no going back. See John chapter 11 for the start of the story.
Why three books? I hear you ask. Well, even if you didn’t ask, I’m going to tell you anyway. I am writing three books at the same time because I am a pantster, not a plotster. So, I write by the seat of my pants, making it up as I go along. This means that as I run out of ideas on one book, I switch to another.
Paul’s Fourth Missionary Journey is based on some historical evidence. It has entailed a fair amount of research, mainly courtesy of Google, Wikipedia, and of course, my Bible.
I Am Ai is a bout a rogue Ai from the future who comes to earth in 2015. He is a total maverick. He sets up a unique squad of mainly SAS soldiers. He upgrades them and their equipment. They then go out on various dangerous adventures. Eventually they realise that what their friendly Ai is doing is subtly altering the history to change the future. They then have to battle against the very force that created them. The force being an entity far more powerful and resourceful than humans.
Anyway, getting back to the plot, I promise to write at least one poem every week, sometimes more. (Except when I’m away on my holibobs, when you might get more or you might get none!) They will be the usual mixture of rhyming poems and non-rhyming prose. A mix of humour, satire and serious stuff. Some very silly poems, others more edgy and grown up. So buckle up for the ride!
Well, that’s about it, just a quick update to let the world know what’s happening. (Assuming anyone is interested.)
My only question now is. How can one get WordPress to use a UK English dictionary instead of American? HELP!
